ASSOCIATION PRINT AND MEDIA
In cooperation with Fogra, the associations Print and Media provide all services connected with PSO certification. Usually, technical departments or subsidiaries (printXmedia) are entrusted with support and certification.
All certifications are cross-checked and verified by certification partner Fogra.

FOGRA
The Fogra Research Institute for Media Technologies promotes research and development in printing technology and aims to provide the industry with valuable results. To this end, the research association has its own institute with 50 employees, including engineers, chemists and physicists.
In cooperation with the associations Print and Media, Fogra provides all services connected with PSO certification.
All certifications are cross-checked and verified by the associations Print and Media.
ENTERPRISE EVALUATION
Specialists employed by your certification partner methodically and thoroughly examine the entire production, from data acceptance to prepress and printing plate production to printing. During this process, they point out problem areas, possible improvements and requirements demanded by ProcessStandard Offset.
You obtain a detailed overview of what can or must be improved, changed or optimized. On request, your consultant provides you with a written summary and helps with the implementation.
You receive an objective and thorough inspection as well as a sound evaluation. A true asset, even without PSO certification.
COMPETENCE EVALUATION
High quality as well as a stable and standardized production environment, demand knowledge and expertise from your employees.
The competence evaluation process is about specifically promoting important and necessary skills.
Through personal interviews with employees in prepress and printing, existing knowledge is examined and further requirements can be determined. Immediately afterwards, the results are discussed on-site. Possible deficits need to be overcome before successfully introducing standardized production.
You receive a detailed report on your company’s know-how and the necessary optimization measures. As a result, many weaknesses (often in data handling and color management) are already exposed and removed.
PSO TRAINING
The certification partners offer numerous introductory and special seminars about a wide range of topics concerning printing and digital media.
Fogra and the associations Print and Media put a special focus on PSO. They offer various training for all areas of activity - from half-day events aimed at decision-makers to extended seminars for technicians to practical workshops. Furthermore, you can receive on-the-job training or competent production assistance.
Your certification partners are happy to help you with any special questions or offers.

SPECIAL PSO TRAININGS AND WORKSHOPS
The certification partners offer specific PSO training which is coordinated with the company’s existing infrastructure and technical equipment. Training is conducted on the basis of precise assignments.
Below you will find training “classics“. Your certification partners will of course compile individual training according to your interests.
- Process control digital proof
With suitable equipment, reliable print simulations can be created. Depending on the proof-RIP, different steps are necessary to achieve color adjustment, which can be used to simulate different print conditions.
We assist users with the basic linearization of their output device, with adapting to modifications of the color printer and with setting up several spoolers. Those means of assistance help you to maintain high quality and reliable proof results.
- Proper handling of ICC Profiles
Operators can receive support with the installation and set-up of color profiles as well as the configuration of ColorSync and Adobe Photoshop. Furthermore, users learn where to download the newest standard profiles as well as what to keep in mind when editing images.
After this step in the project you are capable of evaluate color spaces in image data and prevent errors in the separation.
- Process control CTP System
Usually two correction curves have to be stored in a CTP RIP. One correction curve maintains the linearity of the plate exposure while the second correction curve affects the dot gain of the final print process.
Together with your employees and with the help of suitable measurement devices we carry out different control steps in order to guarantee a consistent quality of plate exposure. The operator is then able to perform high quality platemaking as well as quality control.
These skills help you to react towards fluctuations in means of materials as well as the processes behind platemaking. To compensate these fluctuations provides stability in later processes and especially in the gray balance oft the final print product.
- Printing of inking series
The effect of inks according to their respective location in a color system depend on the used paper. It is important to know for the production what amount of liquid each color should have when being printed on certain printing carrier. Thereby it is possibly to define a drying period which is necessary to achieve target values according to ISO 12647.
Depending on the number of papers used the "lowest common denominator“ will be identified. This action helps to keep the different production processes and printing condition manageable. The test form used in this procedure can be adapted accordingly which will guarantee that technical deficiencies are discovered.
You receive joint density values for different paper types with similar dot gain values (which can also be averaged).
- Printing of characteristic curves
A linear exposed printing plate is printed according to the data collected during the previous test. The values collected during this test will be examined and evaluated together with the client. Differences and similarities in dot gain are then compared and can be informative about the overall condition of the printing machine as well as well as the effects of different paper types. Depending on the outcome of this test further steps with regard to the technical condition and the dot gain values used can be taken into action.
You will receive customized and individual adjusted screen values which will ultimately lead to a perfect grey balance in the final print product. - Fine correction of dot gain values
Should the reproduction of tone values after all the previous test still be unsatisfactory further printing tests can be arranged. This ist usually the final step in a the adjustments according to ProzessStandard Print. Because of the reasonable selection of printing conditions the printing company can easily verify in day-to-day business the required tolerances and quality standards.
After this final step you will experience a perfect match between proof and final print product.
